Here is another typical scene in the New Forest. This time the river is completely blocked, with the water having to trickle through any gaps in the obstruction. By the total lack of maintenance shown here, Sea Trout and Salmon, after the long journey from the sea to their spawning grounds, are unable to get past this. I believe to deny fish unrestricted access to their spawning grounds is illegal. But who cares, no-one it seems. Only recently, I witnessed a lady releasing a salmon which had become wedged in the debris. This fish would have surely died had it not been for her efforts.
