About I.R. Johnson, Including a little bit of history for anyone remotely interested.
I.R. Johnson (Electrical) is located in the New Forest village of Brockenhurst.
I was born here as were previous generations of my family. On my mothers side of the family, my great grandfather lived in the small fishing town of Lymington where he carried out the trade of Whitesmith, making tin and copper kettles. His terraced thatched cottage situated in Belmore lane, was destroyed by fire after a neighbour set their chimney alight, around the turn of the last century, Incidentaly, one of my elderly Lymington customers who died just before his 100th birthday remembered the fire, and recalled the incident to me.
My grandfather was a Brockenhurst village postman, and purported to be the finest marksman in the village when it came to shooting game with his 12 bore and 4-10 shotguns, and if the truth is known, probably anything else that could fly, hop or run!!
My grandfather on my fathers side of the family was a carter, transporting goods around the New Forest. He was well known for collecting dismantled aeroplanes from the railway station, in particular the Bleriot biplane and transporting them to the now unused Beaulieu airfield where they were reassembled, so the pioneer pilots of the day could take off to practice their skills. He unfortunately lost his life fighting for his country on one of the last days of the first world war.
My father, started working life as a garden boy at Rhinefield house in Brockenhurst when it belonged to the well known Walker Munro family, and later, with two of his brothers ran an extensive market garden and Landscape business in and around the New Forest, the produce from the market garden being sold in their fruit and vegetable shop, which was located in the car park of the Foresters Arms public house in Brockenhurst (The wooden shop is now pulled down), and his other brother was Landlord of the Kings Head public house in Lymington, a very skilled dart player, he achieved moderate fame when he challenged and beat a News of the World champion dart player, the team he assembled in his public house were probably about the best local team around at the time.
My brother is also a postman but is better known as the village historian, frequently giving lectures and slide shows on the forest from his vast collection of early photographs and postcards.
Myself, I am a recently retired retained fireman with over 30 years experience and one of the few remaining beekeepers in the village. I have built up my business over a period of 32 years, with all of my work coming through recommendation, for this reason I have never needed to advertise. I started this web site primarily as a service to existing customers and as an electrical site is not particularly awe inspiring, my intention is to include information on the New Forest, local news articles, places to visit etc, so this site will be constantly changing and hopefully of interest to other people as well as local residents.
