Plug Top Fuses. It is important to have the correct fuse for the appliance/equipment that you are using. You would usually consult the handbook or instruction manual for information regarding the correct fuse. Should you be unable for any reason to find out what fuse is required, below is a guide as to the fuses you would usually expect to find protecting various equipment. Most appliances have a rating plate attached to the body of the appliance which gives details of  current consumption in Watts . You can calculate how to find the correct fuse by the simple formula below.
Divide the current of appliance by the household mains voltage, (normally 240 volts) in the Uk. to find the amperage of the fuse.
Eg: Wattage of appliance 1500 divided by 240 volts = 6.25 amps. In this case a 10 amp fuse would be correct.
Eg: Wattage of appliance 1000 divided by 240 volts = 4 amps. So in this case a 5 amp fuse would be correct.

Please do not treat the guide below as anything other than a general guide, Appliances do vary.
Table lamps, Shavers, Electric toothbrushes, Television and video usually require a 3 amp fuse.
Food mixers, Electric Drills, Sanders, Jig Saws,Vacuum Cleaners, Floor Polishers Sewing machines, 5 amp fuse.
